What is a Pixel?

A pixel is a cluster of two to four LEDs.

What does Pitch mean?

The pitch of an LED sign is the distance between each pixel. If a pitch is 10mm that means that each pixel (or LED cluster) is 10 millimeters (.39 inches) apart from each LED cluster around it. The smaller the pitch the more LEDs per square-foot which means the resolution will be higher. A sign with a 10 mm (.39 inches) pitch can show more characters and the picture will be clearer up close than a sign of the same case size with a pitch of 20 mm (.78 inches). If you are displaying a lot of graphics and you want your images to look crisper and more realistic, then your pixels should be located closer together. If you are just running text without a lot of graphics, you can go with a pitch where the pixels are located further apart.

What is the difference between Color and Single Color?

Single color LED signs are perfect for delivering text messages to your audience. You can customize your message on single color signs and change the message as often as needed. Color LED signs can do everything the single color signs do plus they are more effective for displaying graphics and animations. Full color LED signs give you the capability to display almost every color in the spectrum.

Is Viewing Angle Important?

You have probably noticed electronic signs on the highway that you can see from a distance, but as you get closer to the sign, the text or images disappear. Long distance viewing LEDs usually have a viewing angle between 10 and 30 degrees, as long as you are straight in front of them, you can see them. Most installations are not situated in a position that allows for extended straight on viewing of the sign. Usually a passer-by has 5 seconds to read your sign. Big Brite provides a 125 degree viewing angle (125 degree viewing cone) which allows the sign to be read from the side as well as from the front.
